The Great Ife Alumni Association has applauded the appointment of Adejare Bello as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Global President of the association, Leye Bunmi Falode, alongside the Global Publicity Secretary, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, described Bello’s appointment as well-deserved, noting that he brings to the position a wealth of experience in law, legislation, diplomacy and public service.
The alumni body said Bello’s distinguished career as a lawyer, legislator, diplomat and seasoned politician made him a fitting choice to serve as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s governing council.
According to the association, his appointment is expected to strengthen the administration of the institution and further advance its academic and institutional development.
The statement also noted that Bello, an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University who obtained his law degree from the Faculty of Law, has a longstanding connection with the institution, a factor the alumni believe will help him appreciate its traditions and aspirations.
The association expressed confidence in his ability to provide visionary leadership and collaborate effectively with the university’s management, staff, unions, students, alumni and other stakeholders in advancing the mission and global reputation of the institution.
While congratulating Bello on the appointment, the alumni body expressed optimism that his tenure would usher in a new phase of stability, progress and excellence for the university.
The association also recalled that the immediate past Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Siyan Oyeweso, passed away in December 2025 at the age of 64 after a brief illness.
