The Great Ife Alumni Association has congratulated three distinguished alumni of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, on their election as Fellows of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL), the foremost body for humanities scholarship in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by the Association’s Global Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Global President, Barrister Bunmi Falode, described the honorees as “worthy ambassadors of Great Ife and accomplished academic giants.”
The newly elected NAL Fellows are:
Professor Gbemisola Aderemi Adeoti – Regular Fellow
Professor Akinwumi Ogundiran – Overseas Fellow
Dr. Lasisi Olagunju – Honorary Fellow
Professor Adeoti is a renowned scholar, poet, dramatist, and critic whose work spans literature, cultural studies, and performance. An alumnus of OAU and the University of Ibadan, he is one of Nigeria’s most influential literary voices.
Professor Ogundiran, a First-Class graduate of Archaeology from OAU, is a globally respected archaeologist and historian of Yoruba civilization and Atlantic Africa. He currently serves as President of the Society of Africanist Archaeologists and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Lasisi Olagunju, a celebrated journalist and political commentator, is Editor of Saturday Tribune and author of the widely read Monday Lines column. He holds a First-Class degree in English from OAU, as well as postgraduate degrees in Communication Arts and Political Communication.
Falode praised the trio’s academic and professional excellence, stating; “As you join the league of eminent personalities shaping the world with your innovative ideas, I implore you to use your well-endowed knowledge to have positive impact on society.”
