The Great Ife Alumni Association has extended warm congratulations to Dr. Fatou Bensouda, a distinguished alumna of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), on her recent election as Chair of the Executive Council of the Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience International (CABI).
In a statement signed by the Global Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Global President of the association, Barrister Bunmi Falode, described Bensouda’s appointment as a “round peg in a round hole,” noting her outstanding international credentials.
CABI is an intergovernmental, not-for-profit organization dedicated to solving problems in agriculture and the environment through science, information, and capacity building.
Dr. Bensouda is currently The Gambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. She served as Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) from 2012 to 2021, becoming the first woman to hold the position. She previously held high-ranking legal posts in The Gambia, including Attorney General and Minister of Justice.
Falode noted that Bensouda was honoured by the Great Ife Alumni Association at its Global Convention in May 2025 in recognition of her remarkable contributions to global justice and diplomacy.
“We are proud of Dr. Bensouda’s continued rise on the international stage. We wish her a successful and impactful tenure as she leads CABI in addressing global agricultural and environmental challenges,” Falode stated.
