An accomplished Environmentalist, a believer in the noiseless delivery of selfless service to both his immediate community, Oro-Ukpabang and humanity as a whole.
Born into the iconic family of Late Engr. Robin Oku Ukpong and Late Madam Akon Oku Ukpong of Udung Uwe Village in Urue Offong Oruko, Akwa Ibom State.
His father was the first engineer ever to come from Oro Nation and was one of the local civil engineers who constructed the Niger Bridge in Onitsha, the third largest ethnic tribe in Akwa Ibom State. For his services to his community and others, he has been given many chieftaincy titles, as well as Diocesan Elder of the Methodist Church of Nigeria.
Oku-Ukpong is currently the Chief Executive/Managing Director of Markus Synergy Limited, an independent environmental consulting and agricultural revolution firm. In order to ensure that there is enough food in Cross River State and Nigeria, he and his family have set up an integrated farming firm in Calabar, Cross River State. His agricultural revolution has led to the establishment of a poultry feed mill to help reduce the cost of animal feed. He has an M.Sc. in Environmental Science, specializing in pollution and monitoring, from the Institute for the Environment, Brunel University, West London, United Kingdom. He also holds a B.Sc. in Education from Uthman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto State. He is an Associate Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), a professional body in the UK. He is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), UK. Years before he left the country for studies and greener pastures, Oku-Ukpong was honored with an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management. He was appointed in 2018 as an International Consultant on Water Pollution and Environmental Management for the Facility for Oil Sector Transformation Phase 2 (FOSTeR 2), a multi-purpose British firm working on the ongoing clean-up process in Ogoni land.
Oku Ukpong is an environmental specialist who has worked in the UK for many years. His goal in all areas of the firms he has worked with is to leave the place better than he found it.
Before his career in environmental management, he was appointed by the Akwa Ibom State Government in 2008 as a member of the Judicial Commission of Enquiry on the Akwa Ibom International Airport, Uyo. The favorable report he submitted led to the quick completion of the airport and its related facilities.
At the beginning of 2022, he was again appointed as an international consultant with the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group as an independent environmental and social consultant to provide E&S safeguard services on projects through the identification, preparation, appraisal, approval, supervision, and completion of projects and programs. His activities are managed by the Environmental and Social Safeguard and Compliance Department (SNSC). He discharges his functions with all professionalism, dedication, and integrity.
