As Muslims across the globe usher in the new Islamic year 1447 A.H, the Muslim Community of Oyo State (MUSCOYS) has called on Muslims in the state and beyond to use the sacred period as a moment for sober reflection, renewed unity, and commitment to Islamic values.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of MUSCOYS, Alhaji Ishaq Kunle Sanni, and the Secretary-General, Alhaji Murisiku Abidemi Siyanbade, the group emphasised the importance of Hijrah as a pivotal event in Islamic history that continues to inspire resilience, sacrifice, and the pursuit of a just society.
“The Hijrah was a journey marked by trials and perseverance. As Muslims, we must take this opportunity to rise above our divisions, strengthen our unity, and uphold the Islamic brotherhood that defines our faith,” the statement read.
MUSCOYS noted that the month of Muharram, which marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar, commemorates the migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE an event that allowed for the establishment of a community based on Islamic principles and freedom of worship.
The group urged Muslims to “migrate” from behaviours and tendencies that fuel disunity and disrepute, stressing that true adherence to the teachings of Islam will restore dignity and cohesion to the Muslim Ummah.
They prayed that Hijrah 1447 would usher in renewed faith, progress, and divine blessings for Muslims in Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
“May this year bring true unity, progress, and abundant divine blessings for the Ummah. Ameen,” the statement concluded.
