The politically sophisticated and ever aware people of Ibadan came to the rescue of their Governor yesterday when they helped him to execute the mandate issued to him by his boss, by proclaiming His Excellency Atiku Abubakar as the Presidential Candidate to be supported by the good people of Oyo State. The Governor had earlier been directed by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to pronounce the Presidential candidate to be supported.
It is significant that Governor Seyi Makinde saw the good judgment to align with the mammoth crowd when the shout of Atiku, Atiku, Atiku rented the air. Though the Governors present were tongue-tied, the message sent by the people was unmistakable. As it turned out, the only name pronounced and held in acquiescence by all present was Atiku Abubakar. God bless the good people of Ibadan and Oyo State, who had earlier staged a freedom and Atiku solidarity walk.
As the election draws near and preferences are being expressed by the electorate, the beauty of democracy is beginning to flourish. As it is popularly enunciated, the minority can have its say, but the majority would have its way.
The People’s Verdict was enthusiastically delivered in Ibadan yesterday. The people of Ibadan spoke loud and clear. There’s neither headmaster nor headboy on election matters.
Meanwhile, we are still waiting for the promise of Governor Wike on whom he will ask Nigerians to vote for as per President since he could not announce it in Ibadan yesterday. POWER BELONG TO THE PEOPLE. Not to late to engage the reverse gear my G5 brothers.
