Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, has commended the Ogbona Youth Forum (OYF) and a prominent community leader, Mr. Peter Omoh Dunia, for their significant contributions to security infrastructure in Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
On Saturday, the IGP, represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5 Benin, Arungwa Nwazue, commissioned a newly built Divisional Police Headquarters (DPQ) and a cutting-edge ICT-DATA Centre donated by the community.
The facilities, equipped with 10 modern offices, a secured armory, gender-specific cells, a 30 KVA solar system for uninterrupted power, and an ICT surveillance hub featuring drones with a 30-kilometer radius, aim to enhance modern policing and crime prevention.
The donation also included a patrol vehicle and four motorcycles for rapid response and patrol operations.
The community, through the OYF and Mr. Dunia, will fund the salaries of two technicians responsible for managing the ICT-DATA Centre. The Centre will also serve as a training institute for police officers and other security agencies in ICT security control.
In his speech, the IGP emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, highlighting the need for community-driven efforts to support modern policing. “Policing is everybody’s business, and efforts like this from the Ogbona Youth Forum and Peter Omoh Dunia are invaluable in tackling insecurity,” he said.
Mr. Peter Omoh Dunia, Executive Director of Inter-Atlas Synergy Ltd., stated that the initiative was inspired by the belief that security is fundamental to development.
“This Divisional Police Headquarters is not just a building; it is a symbol of hope, unity, and progress. It will enhance the efficiency of our police force in safeguarding lives and property across Ogbona and neighboring communities,” Dunia remarked.
OYF National President, Mr. Paulinus Eleta, expressed optimism that the project would significantly reduce criminal activities, particularly kidnapping, in Edo North. He announced plans for the next community initiative—a skill acquisition center to empower residents with sustainable skills.
The event concluded with a fundraising ceremony for the new project, with Dunia and other dignitaries making generous contributions to kick-start the initiative.
