The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered sustained and intelligence-driven security operations to restore calm in Plateau State following the recent deadly attack on Angwan Rukuba Community in Jos North Local Government Area.
During an operational visit to the state, the IGP strongly condemned the attack, which occurred on March 29, 2026, describing it as tragic and unacceptable. He first paid a courtesy visit to Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, to commiserate with the government and people of the state before proceeding to the affected community for an on-the-spot assessment.
The IGP disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force swiftly activated a robust response immediately after receiving distress calls. The operation included the deployment of senior police leadership, tactical units, and multiple Police Mobile Force (PMF) units, working in collaboration with the military and other security agencies.
According to him, the intervention has significantly de-escalated tensions in the area, with security personnel strategically deployed to maintain law and order. He added that intelligence-led operations are ongoing to track down and apprehend those behind the attack.
Reaffirming the commitment of the police to peace and stability, the IGP warned youths against engaging in reprisal attacks or vigilantism, noting that such actions would only worsen the security situation and undermine peace efforts.
Governor Mutfwang, in his remarks, commended the swift and coordinated response of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly praising the leadership of the Plateau State Commissioner of Police and the Police Mobile Force for their role in containing the crisis.
The Governor also advocated for structural reforms in the nation’s security architecture, including the establishment of state police, as well as the deployment of advanced surveillance technologies such as night-vision drones to enhance operational efficiency.
He further emphasized the importance of strengthened intelligence gathering by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), while pledging continued support to security agencies through logistics and cooperation.
The IGP assured that he would brief the President on the situation as part of ongoing national security coordination and reiterated the police’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the country.
Residents were urged to remain calm, vigilant, and to support security agencies with credible information to aid ongoing operations.
