The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday decorated newly promoted senior police officers with their new ranks, charging them to uphold the highest ethical and professional standards in service to the nation.
The decoration ceremony, held at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, marked another milestone in the Police leadership’s effort to reward diligence, discipline, and professionalism among officers.
In the latest promotion exercise approved by the Police Service Commission (PSC), one Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) was promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), four Commissioners of Police (CPs) were elevated to AIGs, while eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to substantive CPs.
Those decorated included DIG Mohammed Dankwara, AIGs Denimen Abibo, Umar Madaki, Nkechi Eze, and Garba Nzukwen, as well as CPs Naziru Kankarofi, Nendel Gomwalk, Tijani Fatai, Aniefok Akpan, and Moorkwap Dongshal, among others.
The newly promoted officers were among 923 personnel who successfully passed the rigorous and transparent promotion exercise conducted by the PSC after written examinations and interviews, based on recommendations from the IGP.
The event attracted prominent dignitaries, including the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri; Senator Simon Lalong, former Governor of Plateau State; Senator Abdul-Aziz Yari, former Governor of Zamfara State; Senator Tony Nwoye (Anambra North); Senator Iya Abbas (Adamawa Central); and Senator Ede Dafinone (Delta Central).
Also in attendance were the Minister of State for Regional Development, FCT, Hon. Alhaji Ahmadu; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda; and the Chairman, Board of Trustees of Al-Hikmah University, Alhaji (Chief) Dr. Abdul-Raheem Oladimeji, alongside members of the Force Management Team, serving and retired senior officers, and families of the honourees.
In his address, IGP Egbetokun congratulated the officers and urged them to lead with integrity, fairness, and renewed commitment to justice, while deploying intelligence-led and community-oriented approaches to policing.
He emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership would continue to prioritize officers’ welfare, merit-based promotions, and capacity development to enhance operational efficiency across the country.
“This promotion is not just a reward for past achievements but a call to greater service. You must continue to exemplify the core values of professionalism, integrity, and accountability,” Egbetokun said.
