The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Monday, December 8, 2025, declared open the 2025 Annual Conference of Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) of the Nigeria Police Force, held at the Police Resource Centre, Abuja.
In his keynote address, the IGP described the annual gathering as “a strategic national engagement and a critical platform for strengthening police-public communication, shaping national narratives constructively, and deepening public trust.” He noted that modern policing is now defined not only by operational efficiency but also by the transparency, accuracy, and responsiveness of police communication.
Highlighting the increasing threat of misinformation and perception-driven conflicts, the IGP stressed that information management has become “a frontline operational priority.” He urged PPROs to dominate the information space with truth, clarity, and professionalism, emphasized proactive communication over reactive messaging.
He also warned against leaving narrative gaps that misinformation actors could exploit. The IGP directed PPROs across all commands and formations to respond promptly and strategically to misleading content at the point of emergence, insisted that falsehood must never be allowed to flourish unchallenged.
Declaring the conference open, the IGP expressed confidence that the sessions would enhance the capacity of PPROs, improve strategic communication, and strengthen the national image of the Nigeria Police Force. He called for renewed dedication to excellence, integrity, and professionalism, noting that effective public engagement remains essential to the future of policing.
The event drew notable dignitaries, including the President and Chairman of Council, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Ike Neliaku, fnipr, represented by former Adamawa State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ahmed Sajoh,the Director-General of the National Institute of Policy Studies, Prof. Olu Ogunsakin; National Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan (represented by Ambassador Wada Sadiq); and veteran former Force PRO, AIG Tunji Alapini (Rtd),
