Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has received police officers who were recently called to the bar at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. During the meeting, IGP Egbetokun congratulated the officers on their achievement and emphasized the importance of grounding police actions in the law.
He specially recognized DSP Idachaba Laraba for graduating with First Class Honours from the Nigerian Law School, described him as a significant asset to the Nigeria Police Force. The IGP stressed that the officers’ return to the Force not merely as personnel but as custodians of legal knowledge, whose expertise must be used to strengthen the Force and serve the Nigerian people.
Egbetokun urged the officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in their new roles, emphasizing that every action and power exercised by the police must be grounded in, and backed by, the law. The officers expressed their profound gratitude for the warm reception and deep appreciation for the IGP’s steadfast support in ensuring that police officers are afforded the opportunity to attend law school.
They pledged to utilize their legal knowledge to benefit the NPF and the public, upholding the highest standards of professionalism in their new roles. This addition of legal expertise comes at a timely moment for the Nigeria Police Force, aligning with the recent upgrade of its Legal Section to a full Directorate, now headed by an Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
