IGP hosts Historic Interfaith Iftar, Lent Dinner, assures Tight Security Nationwide

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has hosted a landmark interfaith Iftar and Lent dinner for police officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, brought together personnel of different faiths in a rare demonstration of unity, tolerance, and shared national values.

The event, described as the first of its kind at the Force Headquarters, aimed to foster interfaith harmony within the Nigeria Police Force while strengthening discipline, cohesion, and mutual respect among officers.

Among dignitaries present were Amos Yohanna of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs; Jafar Yakubu of the House Committee on Police Affairs; President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, Oluwafumilola Disu; Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu; retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu; and Prof. Imam Musa of the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, among other stakeholders.

In his remarks, the IGP highlighted the spiritual significance of Ramadan and Lent as periods of sacrifice, reflection, and service to humanity. He stressed that despite religious differences, officers of the Force remain united by core values such as discipline, compassion, and dedication to duty.

He further underscored the importance of religious harmony as a critical foundation for professionalism and effective policing, urging officers to embrace peace, tolerance, and selflessness in their daily engagements.

Assuring Nigerians of adequate security during the festive period, Disu disclosed that the Force has intensified deployments, boosted surveillance operations, and implemented proactive measures across Commands and Formations nationwide to ensure a safe and peaceful atmosphere.

The IGP also extended goodwill to Muslim faithful observing Ramadan, encouraged them to uphold the virtues of peace and coexistence associated with the holy month.

The interfaith gathering is widely seen as a significant step toward strengthening unity within the Force and enhancing public confidence in the Nigeria Police.
