In a swift response to the renewed wave of violence in Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of police tactical assets to communities affected by recent attacks.
The IGP’s directive followed a series of coordinated attacks that began on March 28, 2025, in Bokkos Local Government Area and surrounding communities, which have led to the loss of many lives and left scores injured.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP has tasked the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, to personally coordinate the police response in Plateau State.
DIG Yakubu arrived in the state on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, and paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang. During the visit, the DIG conveyed the IGP’s condolences to victims’ families and reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to restoring peace in the region.
The deployment included additional units of highly trained tactical personnel, surveillance drones, Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), helicopters, and specialized units from the Police Mobile Force and Special Intervention Squad (SIS). These assets will be strategically stationed in volatile areas to curb further attacks and prevent recurrence.
The IGP emphasized a multi-faceted security approach aimed at not only halting the ongoing violence but also addressing its root causes in collaboration with local authorities and community stakeholders.
The Nigeria Police Force urged residents of Plateau State to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid ongoing operations and investigations.
“The Force remains fully committed to working with the Plateau State Government, security agencies, and local leaders to achieve lasting peace,” the statement concluded.
