A former President of the Nigerian Senate, Chief Pius Anyim, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Anyim officially joined the ruling party on Saturday at Pa Oruta Ngele Township Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, during the final campaign rally ahead of local government elections in the state.
While addressing party faithfuls during the final rally, Anyim called on all Ebonyi people to continue to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahamed Tinubu and Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
He said, “Today is remarkable in the government of Ebonyi State. Today, we are back together. It is so saddening, but it is not about me, but about the people of Ebonyi State. We consulted and made resolutions before this defection.
“We call on all Ebonyi people to support Mr. President as he navigates the nation through these trying times.
“The people of Ebonyi have resolved to support the Government of Mr. President and Minister of Works to upscale the administration of Bola Tinubu. We appeal to all Nigerians to rally around Mr. President”.
The former SGF was not the only one who joined the APC. A Labour Party Chieftain, Mr Edwin Nkwegu was among those who defected to the ruling party.
Anyim served as the SGF under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. He was elected as a senator from Ebonyi in 1999 under the PDP and became the Senate President in 2000 under the same party.
