The Armed Forces of Nigeria have intensified counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations nationwide, targeting not only terrorist groups but also their networks of collaborators and informants.
In a significant breakthrough in the North Central region, troops neutralized a notorious terrorist commander and arms dealer, Abu Mosaje, in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. Additionally, a wanted kidnap kingpin, Babangida Gora Usman, was apprehended in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In another operation, troops arrested a notorious gunrunner, Timothy Yusuf, and his son, Timothy Obadiah, in the same region.
Meanwhile, in the South East, seven IPOB/ESN members, including a notorious kidnapper and informants, were captured in Enugu North and Ehime Mbano Local Government Areas of Enugu and Imo States, respectively.
During the week under review, troops achieved remarkable results, neutralized 79 terrorists, arrested 224 suspects, and rescued 67 kidnapped hostages across various operational theaters.
In the South-South region, troops thwarted oil theft worth over N747 million. They dismantled 215 crude oil cooking ovens, 26 dugout pits, 62 storage tanks, 42 illegal refining sites, and confiscated several items, including boats, vehicles, and motorcycles. Recovered products included 842,685 liters of stolen crude oil and 12,340 liters of illegally refined diesel.
The nationwide operations also yielded 104 assorted weapons, 1,953 rounds of ammunition, and other items, including motorcycles, mobile phones, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Among the recovered arms were 53 AK-47 rifles, 25 fabricated rifles, 11 Dane guns, and 7 rocket-propelled grenade bombs.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, emphasized that the military remain steadfast in its mission to eliminate threats and create a secure environment for citizens.
