JUST IN: National Assembly Service Commission appoints Kamoru Ogunlana as Clerk to the National Assembly …… Approves Retirement of Tambuwal.

The National Assembly Service Commission NASC has approved the appointment of Barrister Kamoru Ogunlana as the substantive Clerk to the National Assembly CNA.

 

This is even as the commission approved the retirement of Mr Sani Magaji Tambawal, the outgoing Clerk to the National Assembly CNA.

 

This was contained in a statement released by the NASC Deputy Director, information, Emmanuel Onyigor on Wednesday.

 

An appointment letter personally signed by the Chairman, National Assembly Service Commission NASC, Engr Ahmed Kadi Amshi read in parts ;

 

The National Assembly Service Commission NASC at its 610th meeting held on Wednesday, 6th November, 2024, approved your appointment as Clerk to the National Assembly CNA, with effect from 2nd February, 2025.

 

The Commission explained that the appointment was in recognition of Mr Kamoru’s hard work and administrative competence and urged him to work hard to justify the confidence reposed on him.

 

In a separate letter also signed by the NASC Chairman, the commission also acknowledged the immense contributions of the outgoing CNA, Sani Magaji Tambawal to the National Assembly Service;

 

Part of the letter to the retiring CNA reads ;

As you proceed on your pre-retirement leave , Dr. Kamoru Ogunlana will oversee the affairs of the office of the Clerk to National Assembly CNA, while working with you to ensure smooth transition untill he takes over from you as substantive Clerk to the National Assembly CNA, on 2nd February, 2025.

 

Before this elevation, Dr Kamoru was the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly DCNA.

 

Dr. Kamoru Ogunlana, an indigene of Omu-Jebu in the Odogbolu LGA of Ogun State, was born on June 22,1967, in Tiko town, South-West, Cameroon. He holds a degree in in Law from Ogun State University, Ago-lwoye, attended the Nigerian Law Schoolin 1989/1990, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990. He is a member of the NBA and IBA. Mr. Ogunlana began his distinguished career with the National Assembly Service on October 4, 1993, as a Litigation officer llin the Legal Services Department. After the 4, inauguration of the 1″ National Assembly of the 4th Republic on 8th June 1999, he was converted to a Legislative Officer and re-deployed to the House of Representatives as a Committee Clerk by the Management of the National Assembly. He currently serves as the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, a position he attained on the 29″ March 2023. Before his appointment as the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Mr. Ogunlana served in various capacities in the National Assembly Service: Director, Legislative Scrutiny and Research Department, House of Representatives (Feb 2017 – Aug 2020); Director, Committee Services Department, House of Representatives (Aug 2020- Apr 2022); Secretary, Legal Services Directorate (Apr 2022 – March 2023). In addition, he was for several years the Clerk to the House of Representatives Committees on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Justice, Federal Judiciary, and the National Assembly Joint Ad-hoc Committee on the Review of the Constitution. Mr. Ogunlana has undergone extensive trainings as a Legal Officer and a Legislative Officer both internationally and locally, establishing himself as a seasoned draftsman and o Legislative Officer. He participated in the conception and drafting of several major Bills passed by the National Assembly from 1999 till date.

 

Mr. Ogunlana is a family oriented person who enjoys Football watching combat sports, traveling and reading.
