JUST IN: Sultan of Sokoto Declares Friday, March 20, as Eid-el-Fitr

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced that Friday, March 20, 2026, will mark the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr across Nigeria.

The declaration followed the non-sighting of the crescent moon signaling the end of Ramadan. In a statement issued by the Wazirin Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Sultanate Council confirmed that no verified sighting of the Shawwal 1447AH crescent was reported from any part of the country on Wednesday.

As a result, Thursday, March 19, will complete the 30 days of Ramadan, with Friday marking the first day of Shawwal and the nationwide commencement of Eid-el-Fitr festivities.

The Sultan urged Muslims to use the festive period to pray for peace, unity, and sustained progress in Nigeria as they celebrate the conclusion of the holy month of fasting.
