The Senate of University of Ibadan has summoned emergency meeting billed to take place on Monday. The meeting is being planned to consider elongation of tenure of the acting Vice Chancellor,Prof.A.B Ekanola whose tenure is due to lapse on 31st May,2021.The tenure elongation EMPORIUM REPORTERS gathered is clearly against the law
According to law of the university, there must not be a vacuum,but it only allowed appointment by the senate of another qualified person as acting VC and not extension of tenure of incumbent.
Recalled that Prof. Ekanola was appointed in December,2020 as acting VC for a period six months after crisis erupted over the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor for the institution.
The appointment of Ekanola became necessary after the expiration of the immediate past Vice Chancellor, Prof Idowu Olayinka in December, 2020.
Already, lobbying for and against had begun in UI ahead of the Council meeting on Monday.
The institution recently engulfed in a big financial mess (debts) which is being investigated quietly by the anti graft agencies due to mal-administration of previous administration.
This ,we learnt has led to breakdown of infrastructure on campus with erratic power supply and lack of water supply in the past two or three months except few borehole sunk as well as bad roads on the campus.
