Amnesty International has condemned the escalating violence in southern Kaduna, following a deadly assault on Unguwan Rimi village in Kamaru ward, Kauru Local Government Area, which left seven people dead. The victims were laid to rest today.
The tragic incident, which occurred on 24 August 2025, also left several residents injured, displaced, and the community in ruins.
Amnesty International expressed concern over what it described as the consistent failure of security forces to protect vulnerable communities despite repeated warnings. The rights group noted that security personnel often arrive at attack scenes hours after the assailants have left, leaving rural dwellers feeling abandoned and unprotected.
“Beyond the failure of security forces to prevent or respond to these attacks in time, the absence of justice for victims deepens the sense of insecurity. Communities are left completely exposed when perpetrators are not held accountable,” Amnesty International said.
The organisation called on Nigerian authorities to launch an independent investigation into the killings and ensure that those responsible face justice without delay.
