The Acting Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Kayode Oladele, has reiterated his commitment to repositioning the Commission through institutional reforms and strategic collaboration with the National Assembly.
Speaking during an interactive session with the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Character on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the National Assembly Complex, Oladele pledged to work closely with the Committee to revamp the FCC for the benefit of all Nigerians.
He stressed the need for enabling legislation to strengthen the Commission’s mandate, particularly in ensuring fair representation and equitable distribution of resources and opportunities across the federation.
“When I assumed office, staff morale was at its lowest. But with the steps we’ve taken, public trust is gradually being restored,” Oladele said.
He further revealed that, acting on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure no part of the country is left behind, the Commission has requested nominal rolls from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to identify instances of overrepresentation or underrepresentation.
Oladele also disclosed that the FCC currently maintained office accommodation in all 36 states and the FCT, highlighting this as part of its nationwide administrative structure.
However, he lamented major challenges hindering the Commission’s operations, including inadequate funding and lack of cooperation from some state governors who have failed to forward nominal rolls of their states to the Commission as required.
In response, the Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Character, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, commended the Acting Chairman’s reform efforts and institutional revival strategies. He assured the Committee’s readiness to support the Commission through legislative amendments aimed at enhancing its operational efficiency and effectiveness.
