The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has commended security operatives for their swift intervention that led to the rescue of three persons abducted by bandits in Zurin Mahauta village, Lakwaya town, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.
Bandits, suspected to have infiltrated the community from neighbouring states, attacked the village on Sunday night and kidnapped five residents, prompting an immediate security response.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau strongly condemned the attack, described it as unacceptable, while urging security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the remaining two victims.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, noted that the rescue of three abductees demonstrated the effectiveness and responsiveness of the security operatives on the ground.
An online report by Daily Trust on Monday quoted Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, as confirming that three of the kidnapped persons had been successfully rescued.
Senator Barau, who also serve as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, stressed that bandit incursions into Kano communities must be brought to a permanent end. He noted that the area had enjoyed relative peace in recent weeks before the latest attack.
He called on security agencies to remain vigilant, strengthen surveillance, and fortify vulnerable areas to prevent further attacks, adding that the protection of lives and property remains paramount.
The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to supporting security agencies with logistics and other necessary assistance to enhance their capacity to combat criminal elements and restore lasting peace to the state.
