LASUED wins Gold at inaugural Lagos Campus Beach Soccer 2025

It was a thrilling and fun-filled Saturday as football enthusiasts trooped to Atican Beach, Lekki, to witness the maiden edition of the Lagos Campus Beach Soccer tournament. The atmosphere was electric with pulsating music from DJ Bright and high-stakes action on the sand as the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) clinched the gold medal, emerging as overall champions of the 2025 competition.

LASUED displayed exceptional resilience and tactical brilliance throughout the tournament. They opened with a 1–0 victory over Lagos City Polytechnic and held the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to a tense goalless draw in the final match to top the points table.

UNILAG, renowned for its sports pedigree, fought gallantly in all their fixtures. However, back-to-back draws against LASUED and Lagos City Polytechnic meant the Akoka-based team had to settle for the silver medal.

Lagos City Polytechnic impressed spectators with their skill and teamwork, securing third place marking their best-ever performance in a campus-level tournament.

The tournament was officially flagged off by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Grassroots Sports Development, Mr. Adebanji Atewogboye. He commended the initiative and reiterated the state government’s commitment to youth and grassroots sports.

“This event aligns perfectly with the Governor’s agenda of promoting grassroots sports development and using it as a vehicle for social impact. We are committed to supporting initiatives like this to positively transform the lives of youths in Lagos State,” said Mr. Atewogboye.

Bamidele Adeleye, Managing Director of BrandEscort Communications, the tournament co-organizer, expressed excitement over the success of the inaugural edition. He revealed that plans are already underway to expand participation in the 2026 edition by inviting tertiary institutions from other states.
