Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has appointed Prince Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo. The decision, based on the recommendation of the Oyomesi, the traditional kingmakers, aimed to continue the legacy of the revered late monarch who passed away on April 22, 2022.
Prince Abimbola Owoade, a scion of the Agunloye ruling house, is known for his deep-rooted knowledge of Yoruba culture and traditions. He holds a degree in Public Administration and has been actively involved in community development projects across Oyo State. His background in traditional governance, coupled with his modern education, positions him as a bridge between the past and the future of the Oyo Kingdom.
Governor Makinde expressed confidence in Owoade’s ability to lead the kingdom into a new era of peace and prosperity. Ademola Ojo, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, highlighted that this appointment resolved the socio-legal disputes that arose after the former Alaafin’s demise, signaled a fresh start for the Oyo Kingdom.
The Oyo State government therefore called on the citizens to support and embrace the new Alaafin as he embark on his reign, building on the foundation laid by his illustrious predecessor.
