The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully dismantled a notorious drug hub on Bonny Island, Rivers State, arrested six suspects and seized a significant cache of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, and tramadol.
The operation, carried out at the Ama Hausa area on Friday, 6 February 2026, tragically claimed the life of Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako Mujahid, who sustained fatal head injuries during a violent confrontation with armed hoodlums mobilized by the gang leader, Genesis George Benson.
Femi Babafemi, Director of Media & Advocacy at NDLEA, in a release confirmed that despite the brutal attack, operatives maintained their resolve, apprehended all six suspects, including Benson and his accomplices: ThankGod Okon, Shamsudden Isah, Muhammed Musa, Adamu Muhammed, and Muhammed Yusuf.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman/CEO of NDLEA, commended the bravery of the officers, praised their resilience in the face of deadly resistance.
“I salute the gallantry of our men who refused to be intimidated. Even after the cowardly attack on Mujahid, our operatives ensured that the assailants were overpowered and arrested, and their illicit substances confiscated. Their sacrifice will not be in vain,” Marwa stated.
Paying tribute to the fallen officer, Marwa described Mujahid as disciplined and courageous. “We extend our deepest condolences to his family, his colleagues, and the Rivers State Command.”
He also issued a stern warning to criminal elements: “Any attack on our officers is an attack on the state, and it will not go without dire consequences. We remain undeterred in our mission to rid Nigeria of illicit drugs and will continue to take the fight to the enclaves of these merchants of death.”
