Governor of Ogun State and Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for renewing the appointment of Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd) as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for another five-year term.
Abiodun, in a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, described Marwa’s reappointment as a well-deserved vote for competence, integrity, patriotism and excellence in public service.
He said President Tinubu had once again demonstrated that public officials who deliver outstanding results would be duly recognised and rewarded.
The governor noted that Marwa, first appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021 after chairing the Presidential Advisory Committee on the Elimination of Drug Abuse, has transformed the NDLEA into a model institution with record-breaking achievements.
According to him, Marwa’s leadership has led to the arrest of more than 73,000 drug mules and barons, the seizure of over 15 million kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs, and the conviction of more than 12,000 drug offenders. He added that over 8,200 drug users have undergone counselling and rehabilitation through the agency’s demand-reduction programmes.
Abiodun also commended Marwa for driving nationwide anti-drug abuse campaigns, deepening cross-border collaborations and entrenching accountability within the agency.
“General Marwa’s reappointment is great news for the safety and security of Nigeria and for safeguarding the nation’s future from the destructive influence of narcotics traders,” the governor said. “President Tinubu has done the country a great service with this decision.”
He further praised Marwa as an exemplary public officer who consistently pursues excellence in the discharge of his duties.
“I congratulate him on this well-deserved reappointment and urge him to sustain the commendable work he has been doing,” Abiodun added.
