In a major breakthrough, combined ground and air troops under Operation Fansan Yamma have intensified their offensive against notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, dismantling his stronghold in Fakai, Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The latest military operation resulted in the death of Turji’s son and several key associates, marking a significant blow to his criminal network.
The operation, described as one of the most strategic in recent times, targeted multiple bandit camps, including Zangon Dan Gwandi, Zangon Tsaika, Zangon Kagara, and a school used by Turji’s group to store foodstuffs and weapons. Military sources confirmed that the school was destroyed to prevent its use as a supply base for the bandits.
“We have dealt a significant blow to Turji’s network. His son and many of his fighters were killed, and we intercepted a desperate call from Turji seeking reinforcements, which never came,” an intelligence source disclosed.
The operation saw elite troops, supported by the Navy’s Special Boat Service and the Nigerian Air Force, executing precise airstrikes that destroyed key hideouts. Reports indicated that four of Turji’s fighters were injured, while others retreated to Mangwarorin Gebe, hiding stolen livestock and valuables.
Troops from Operation Hadarin Daji and special forces from Operation Fansan Yamma have positioned themselves strategically along escape routes, aiming to capture or neutralize Turji, who was last sighted in Zangon Gebe.
The success of this operation has been attributed to enhanced intelligence sharing and proactive measures to evacuate civilians from high-risk areas, thereby minimizing collateral damage.
Military officials have reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling bandit networks in Zamfara State and beyond, ensuring peace and security for the affected communities.
The offensive against Turji’s camp represented a decisive step in the ongoing campaign to end banditry in Nigeria’s northwest.
