The Armed Forces of Nigeria have continued their relentless offensive against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements, neutralizing 248 insurgents and arrested several others in the past week.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, disclosed this during a media briefing held today at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja. He stated that troops also rescued 137 kidnapped victims across different theatres of operation.
According to Major General Kangye, troops recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including 176 AK-47 rifles, 48 pump-action guns, 2,032 rounds of ammunition, 352 magazines, and 67 locally fabricated weapons. Additionally, security forces seized 31 motorcycles, 19 vehicles, and large quantities of food and fuel supplies used by insurgents.
He further reported that military airstrikes destroyed multiple terrorist hideouts in the North East, eliminating key commanders and disrupting logistics chains. In the North West and North Central regions, coordinated operations dismantled several bandit camps, while in the South-South, troops intensified anti-oil theft efforts, seized over 410,000 liters of stolen crude oil and 215,000 liters of illegally refined diesel.
The Nigerian Navy also bolstered maritime security, intercepted vessels engaged in illegal activities, thereby preventing economic sabotage.
The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating security threats and urged the public to continue supporting military operations by providing credible intelligence.
As the security forces maintain pressure on criminal elements, the military remains confident that these efforts will restore lasting peace and stability across Nigeria.
