The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, today held a significant meeting with the Ambassador of Belgium to Nigeria, H.E Pieter Leenknegt, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
During the meeting, the Minister outlined her vision for empowering 10 million women, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to boost Nigeria’s economy to $1 trillion. She emphasized the importance of women’s contribution to national development and her ministry’s commitment to achieving this goal through various initiatives.
One key plan discussed was transitioning 1 million families to cleaner and more sustainable cooking sources, alongside efforts to strengthen child protection and family development in Nigeria. Minister Sulaiman-Ibrahim reiterated her commitment to improving gender equality and ensuring that women are equipped with the necessary resources to thrive in all sectors of society.
Ambassador Leenknegt, expressed Belgium’s dedication to supporting Nigeria’s gender equality goals, offered collaboration in areas including gender-based violence prevention, child protection, and broader empowerment initiatives for women. He welcomed the opportunity to work closely with Nigeria in advancing these crucial areas.
The meeting underscored the growing diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Belgium, with a shared vision of empowering women and promoting a more equitable society for all.
