The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMOHSW) has commended Mrs. Olufowobi-Yusuf Adeola, Director of the Food and Drugs Services Department, on her conferment as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON), emphasizing the critical role of chemistry in environmental and public health.
Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, represented at the fellowship investiture by the Director of Hospital Services, Dr. Gloria Adegoke, described the event as a celebration of professional excellence, integrity, and dedication to national development. He noted that chemistry remains foundational to modern health systems, including drug development, quality assurance, toxicology, laboratory diagnostics, and chemical safety regulation.
“The Ministry carefully reviewed the recommendations forwarded by ICCON and found Mrs. Olufowobi-Yusuf Adeola’s credentials and accomplishments truly outstanding,” Dr. Salako said, attributing her fellowship to her exceptional competence, leadership, and contributions to both the profession and public health mission.
In her acceptance remarks, Mrs. Olufowobi-Yusuf Adeola pledged to continue promoting excellence and service for the benefit of Nigeria and humanity. She expressed gratitude to ICCON’s leadership, the Ministry’s management, and mentors who shaped her professional journey. She further encouraged colleagues to uphold integrity, mentor younger professionals, and strengthen public health systems.
Registrar/CEO of ICCON, Chemist Jwalshik Wilford, described the fellowship as a historic recognition reserved for individuals who make meaningful contributions to the advancement of chemistry in Nigeria. He expressed confidence that Mrs. Olufowobi-Yusuf Adeola would leverage her new status to implement chemical policies that enhance the nation’s health system.
Born on 9 February 1969, Mrs. Olufowobi-Yusuf Adeola holds a BSc in Chemistry, an MBA, and an MEd in Guidance and Counseling from Lagos State University. She joined the Federal Ministry of Health in 1993 as a Scientific Officer and rose steadily to her current position as Director of the Food and Drugs Services Department.
The fellowship investiture ceremony was held at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja, marking a milestone in the recognition of professional contributions to health and chemistry in Nigeria.
