Ministry of Interior launches capacity-building programme to strengthen Inter-Agency security collaboration

The Ministry of Interior has officially commenced a two-day capacity-building programme designed to deepen collaboration among agencies under its supervision and enhance Nigeria’s internal security framework.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Maina Tamuna, highlighted that the programme brings together key stakeholders to foster a more coordinated and effective approach to safeguarding national stability and unity. He described the initiative as a strategic effort to reinforce institutional cooperation in tackling emerging security challenges.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo expressed gratitude to the Ministry’s strategic partner, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), for its ongoing support, technical expertise, and commitment to promoting democratic governance, institutional capacity, and cross-national cooperation. He noted that such partnerships are vital for driving actionable solutions that protect critical infrastructure and national assets through unified agency efforts.

The Minister further explained that the programme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Ministry’s reform priorities, focusing on professionalism, accountability, intelligence-led operations, and improved inter-agency coordination. He urged participants—particularly senior officers and decision-makers to apply lessons learned to enhance policies, operational strategies, and sustainable frameworks within their respective agencies.

In his welcome address, the Special Adviser to the Minister on Training, Tunji Odewunmi, encouraged active participation in the sessions and acknowledged KAS’s role in supporting the initiative, calling for continued collaboration in strengthening personnel capacity across the Ministry.

The event drew participants from the Ministry’s four paramilitary agencies, including board members and aides to the Honourable Minister. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to fostering professionalism, collaboration, and operational excellence across all internal security agencies, with the ultimate goal of building a secure, peaceful, and resilient nation.
