In a strongly worded letter dated 6th November 2024, the National President of the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN), Comrade Chief Julius Oghenevwegba Bobi, has expressed disapproval over the Nigeria Labour Congress’s (NLC) appointment of a caretaker committee for the union. Addressed to the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, the letter underscores the violation of court orders and the principle of sub judice, cautioning against actions that could lead to a breakdown of law and order. Dear Congress President,
Re: Appointment of Caretaker Committee for MOUN
We are compelled to formally address your recent decision to appoint a caretaker committee for our union, the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN). This action blatantly disregards court orders and violates the principle of sub judice, given the matter is currently before the court.
Such actions, beyond being provocative, could be deemed unlawful and may result in contempt of court. This also poses a significant risk to the maintenance of peace, law, and order within our operations.
We respectfully urge you to reconsider this course of action and adhere strictly to the directives of the court. Upholding the rule of law and respecting the judicial process will ensure that this matter is resolved without unnecessary escalation.
As the saying goes, “A word is enough for the wise.” We trust that wisdom and respect for the law will prevail in this instance.
