The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) has condemned in strong terms the recent terrorist attack on Woro village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, which reportedly claimed the lives of at least 170 residents.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, was said to have been carried out by suspected Boko Haram militants. Victims included men, women, and children, whose bodies were reportedly found on the streets following the assault.
According to MPAC, the attackers had earlier sent a letter to the District Head of Woro, Alhaji Salihu Umar, indicating their intention to visit the community under the pretext of religious preaching. The traditional ruler, suspecting foul play, alerted security agencies. However, the militants later launched a violent reprisal, killing scores of residents, burning houses, and abducting several others.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday, MPAC described the attack as “barbaric and inhumane,” noting that it reflects the worsening security situation in parts of the country.
The organisation’s Executive Chairman, Disu Kamor, expressed deep sympathy to the families of the victims and prayed for the quick recovery of those injured. He also called on the Kwara State Government to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to affected communities.
MPAC further urged the state and federal governments to intensify security operations in the area, particularly across the Borgu axis linking Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara states, to prevent future attacks.
While acknowledging recent military efforts against terrorist groups, the organisation stressed the need for sustained and intelligence-driven operations to ensure lasting peace.
The group also appealed to the international community to support Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts and assist victims of the attack through humanitarian interventions.
MPAC reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Woro and the wider Muslim community in Kwara State, called for justice, peace, and lasting security in the region.
