The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has commended the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, following the capture of two notorious terrorist leaders in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Sunday, MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, described the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism.
It was revealed that the DSS successfully apprehended Mahmud Muhammad Usman, the self-styled Amir of Ansaru, alongside his ally, Mahmud al-Nigeri, leaders of the Al-Ansaru and Mahmuda terrorist groups. Both had been on the wanted list of Nigeria, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Nations for several years before being captured in a sting operation conducted between May and July 2025.
Akintola lauded Ribadu’s leadership, noting that his methodical restructuring of the country’s security architecture has contributed significantly to recent successes against insurgents, bandits, and kidnappers. He equally praised Ajayi for what he termed a “silent but effective” strategy in tackling security threats since assuming office in August 2024.
The MURIC director also saluted the sacrifices of DSS operatives in the field, describing them as “the real heroes” who endure harsh conditions and risks to safeguard the nation.
While reiterating the group’s condemnation of terrorism in all its forms, Akintola urged the Federal Government to further equip and improve the welfare of security agencies, stressing that national safety underpins the functioning of all other sectors.
“For the umpteenth time, we as an Islamic human rights organization decry terrorism and all forms of violence,” he said. “We assert clearly, unequivocally and emphatically that terrorists do not represent Muslims. Rather, they are a clog in the wheel of the progress of Islamdom.”
