The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), an Islamic human rights organization, has praised the Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, for his progressive stance on promoting the use of hijab by female staff in private security organizations within the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 17th April 2025, the Executive Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, expressed admiration for the governor’s directive, which instructs three private security firms in Jigawa to allow their female Muslim personnel to wear the hijab as part of their uniform. According to reports, the three private security companies employ a total of 9,969 personnel in the state.
Professor Akintola emphasized that the decision reflects the governor’s deep understanding and pride in his faith. He praised Governor Namadi for resisting pressure from civilizational norms and taking a stand for modesty, dignity, and inclusivity for women in the workplace.
“MURIC commends this move. It shows how well the governor understands his religion and how proud he is of his faith. Governor Umar Namadi comes across as someone who will not succumb to civilizational intimidation. His latest directive proves that he is out for inclusivity, decency, modesty, and dignity for women in the workplace,” the statement read.
The organization also urged Muslim government officials across the country to openly practice their faith without compromising their beliefs. However, MURIC emphasized the importance of respecting the rights of non-Muslim employees and adhering to justice for all, as commanded by Islam.
“Unjust treatment of others is a grievous sin in Islam because Allah commands justice and righteousness towards all regardless of religious leaning,” MURIC concluded.
