A human rights advocacy group, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has commended the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, for promoting religious tolerance and inclusive governance.
The commendation was articulated by the group’s Oyo State Secretary,Amb. Ibrahim Agunbiade, in a statement issued on March 18, 2026.
MURIC noted that despite the often politicized nature of religious relations in Nigeria, Governor Eno has continued to foster unity and inclusiveness in the state without undue publicity. The group highlighted his consistent engagement with the Muslim community, particularly through hosting Iftar dinners during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to the statement, the governor recently hosted leaders of the Muslim community at the Government House in Uyo, where he emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among residents and visitors for societal development. MURIC described the gesture as a reflection of the cordial relationship between the state government and the Muslim community.
The group further recalled that even before assuming office, Eno had maintained the tradition of breaking fast with Muslims in Eket and had pledged to extend such gestures to the Government House if elected. It noted that the 2026 Ramadan gathering marks the third consecutive year he has fulfilled that promise.
MURIC also applauded the governor for taking steps to address the absence of a Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board in the state, described the move as a significant step toward inclusivity.
The organization concluded by praising Governor Eno’s leadership style, stating that his actions demonstrated a commitment to unity and equitable governance in Akwa Ibom State.
