The Lagos State Chapter of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has congratulated the Vice President II of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), Alhaji Thabit Wale Sonaike, and his wife, Alhaja Bilikis Tokunbo Sonaike, on their turbaning as Baba Adinni and Iya Sunnah of the Akoka Muslim Central Mosque, Lagos State.
The historic ceremony took place on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Nigerian Army Sports Centre, Somolu, Lagos, and was attended by prominent Islamic scholars, community leaders, and dignitaries from across Nigeria.
In a congratulatory statement issued by Dr. Busari Jamiu Muhammad Ademola, Chairman of MURIC Lagos State Chapter, the organisation described the event as a landmark moment for the Muslim community in Lagos.
“It was indeed a glorious day for Alhaji Thabit Sonaike and his wife, Alhaja Bilikis Sonaike, on their turbaning as prominent Muslim title holders in Akoka, Lagos,” the statement read. “Alhaji Sonaike is a seasoned banker, respected Muslim leader, philanthropist, and a devoted servant of Islam who has expended his life and resources on the welfare of the Muslim community and humanity at large.”
Dr. Ademola praised the Sonaikes for their decades-long dedication to religious service, noting that their conferment as Baba Adinni and Iya Sunnah was a recognition of selfless commitment to Islam and community development.
MURIC prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the couple good health, divine protection, and continued prosperity to sustain their humanitarian and religious contributions. The organisation also urged them to remain steadfast, uphold the rope of Allah, and continue their spiritual and community engagements that have made them widely respected.
“We beseech Allah to preserve the Sonaikes in goodness, grant them long life, and fortify their prosperity with His guidance and blessings,” the statement concluded.
The turbaning of Alhaji Thabit Sonaike and Alhaja Bilikis Sonaike is seen as a source of pride for Muslims in Lagos and an affirmation of decades of service to the Islamic faith.
