The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has condemned the killing of 50 Muslims in coordinated bandit attacks on several communities in Malunfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, accused the West of double standards in its response to such tragedies.
In a statement issued on Saturday, 23rd August 2025, and signed by its Founder and Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, MURIC described the killings as “gruesome, ferocious, inhuman and barbaric.”
Reports indicated that between Monday night and Tuesday morning, 4th and 5th August 2025, armed bandits invaded Gidan Adamu Mantau, Unguwar Yar Mai Dabo, Makera in Karfi ward, and Burdigau in Yaba ward. Thirty worshippers were killed inside a mosque during prayers, while others were burnt alive in their homes.
MURIC faulted security agencies for failing to prevent the prolonged assaults, questioned the effectiveness of intelligence gathering and the presence of military outposts in the area.
The group also accused Western powers, particularly the United States, of selective outrage, noted their silence when Muslim civilians are killed. “Muslim lives also matter,” Akintola stressed.
