The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to urgently intervene in the blockade of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway by protesters a situation that has left thousands of commuters stranded on Monday, 17 November 2025.
According to MURIC, the gridlock stretches from the Ibadan Tollgate to the Ogere Tollgate, covering nearly 60 kilometres and trapping travellers for hours.
In a statement issued by its Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the organisation warned that the stranded commuters risk possible attacks from criminals as many may be forced to spend the night in unsafe conditions along the highway.
“MURIC hereby appeals to Governor Makinde to immediately attend to the protesters,” the statement read. “Thousands of commuters currently trapped may be exposed to attacks in the middle of nowhere. The governor should consider our appeal an S.O.S.”
The group also urged the police commands in Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos states to take emergency security measures to safeguard travellers. It further appealed to the Nigerian Army to deploy relevant units to prevent criminal activities and protect citizens.
