The Director General of the Nigerian Army Finance Incorporation (NAFIC), Major General Julius Osifo, has called on troops of Operation HADIN KAI to take full advantage of existing welfare and financial support schemes aimed at improving their well-being and enhancing operational effectiveness.
Maj Gen Osifo made the appeal on Monday, 23 March 2026, during a sensitisation tour to Headquarters Theatre Command, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, at Maimalari Military Cantonment, Maiduguri.
He explained that NAFIC oversee key welfare initiatives, including the Nigerian Army Benevolent Fund, Group Life Assurance Scheme, and other support packages designed to assist personnel in cases of injury, permanent disability, or death in service.
According to him, the sensitisation exercise also covered the Nigerian Army Personnel Loan Scheme, the Chief of Army Staff Personnel Loan Programme, activities of the Directorate of Non-Public Funds (DNPF), and the operations of the Nigerian Army Microfinance Bank. He said the engagement was aimed at improving troops’ awareness of their entitlements, responsibilities, and available financial benefits.
Maj Gen Osifo noted that stronger awareness of these schemes would further boost morale and strengthen troops’ fighting spirit, thereby improving effectiveness in ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
He also commended the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdusalam Abubakar, for his leadership and sustained operational successes in the theatre, noting that ongoing offensive operations had significantly degraded terrorist capabilities despite isolated setbacks.
In his remarks, Maj Gen Abubakar expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as timely, particularly at a critical phase of the dry season operations. He stated that troops had continued to record operational gains, neutralising about 300 terrorists through coordinated operations and superior firepower.
He added that improved awareness of welfare packages had positively impacted troop morale, assuring that personnel remain confident in the Armed Forces’ commitment to their welfare under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General W. Shaibu, under the “Soldier First” philosophy guiding personnel administration and welfare.
The Theatre Commander reaffirmed the commitment of troops to sustaining momentum in ongoing operations across the North East.
Highlights of the visit included an inspection of the quarter guard, interactive sessions with officers, signing of the visitors’ book, exchange of souvenirs, and a group photograph.
