The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has appointed Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Ali as the new Secretary of the Commission following the voluntary resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Rabi’u Kontagora.
The appointment, which was endorsed by the 5th Board of the Commission at its meeting on February 26, 2025, came after Dr. Mustapha met the requirements advertised by the Commission on its website and other media platforms.
Dr. Mustapha, a former Executive Secretary of Borno State Pilgrims Board, brings decades of experience to the position. His appointment is also in line with NAHCON’s mandate to ensure regional representation on its board, with Dr. Mustapha representing the North-East.
Born in Maiduguri, Borno State, Dr. Mustapha holds a Doctorate and Master’s Degree in Islamic Studies, alongside several other qualifications, including a Post Graduate Diploma in Education and Administration and a Diploma in Computer Application and Internet. He has attended prestigious institutions such as the University of Maiduguri, Bayero University Kano, and the University College for Islamic Call, Tripoli, Libya.
Dr. Mustapha’s career spans various leadership roles, including Chairman of the Caretaker Management Committee of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Deputy Provost at Muhammad Goni College of Legal and Islamic Studies, Maiduguri.
As the new Secretary of the Commission, Dr. Mustapha is expected to oversee records management, conduct correspondences, and serve as Secretary at all meetings of the Commission. He will also coordinate the publication of NAHCON’s regulations and ensure the maintenance of the register of licensed Hajj operators.
His tenure, which will last for four years, is renewable based on performance.
The Commission expressed confidence that Dr. Mustapha’s wealth of experience will add significant value to its operations.
