The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has inaugurated the Principal Officers of the National Medical Team (NMT) and constituted a Steering Committee to oversee medical operations for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage.
During the formal ceremony held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, NAHCON Chairman and CEO, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, described the assignment as a sacred trust. He charged the newly appointed officers to carry out their duties with sincerity, patience, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of pilgrims, whom he described as guests of Allah.
Speaking further, the Commissioner for Planning, Research, Statistics, Information and Library Services (PRSILS), Professor Abubakar Yagawal, emphasized the divine nature of the team’s selection and urged members to uphold the dignity of the assignment.
Also lending their voices, the Commissioner for Operations, Inspectorate and Licensing (OIL), Prince Anofiu Olarewaju Elegushi, and the Commissioner for Policy, Personnel, Management and Finance (PPMF), Alhaji Aliu Abdul-Razak, encouraged the medical officials to discharge their duties with a strong sense of responsibility and the fear of Allah.
Representing the medical professionals, Dr. Saidu Ahmad Dumbulwa described the assignment as a spiritual journey, saying:
“What happens between sunrise and sunset will define the team’s true impact. We have been entrusted with an amana to provide care, protection, and medical support to pilgrims who have sacrificed to embark on this sacred journey.”
The National Medical Team Steering Committee was tasked with several responsibilities, including:
1. Overseeing the selection, screening, and orientation of medical team applicants.
2. Developing and implementing the medical strategy for the 2025 Hajj.
3. Testing and integrating the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system into NAHCON’s operations.
4. Facilitating passport data capture and visa processing.
5. Ensuring full compliance with NAHCON’s medical screening protocols.
6. Undertaking other assignments as directed by the Commission.
NAHCON reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a coordinated, efficient, and spiritually conscious medical service to Nigerian pilgrims during the 2025 Hajj exercise.
