The President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Mrs Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to sustaining legacy projects with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre, an ultra-modern dining hall and a students’ preparatory hall at NAOWA College, Asokoro, Abuja.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held on Wednesday, Mrs Shaibu described the event as a significant milestone reflecting purposeful leadership, institutional continuity and strategic investment in education for students drawn from both military and civilian communities.
She noted that the newly inaugurated facilities represent more than physical infrastructure, describing them as platforms designed to expand opportunities, promote innovation and support structured academic development.
According to her, the CBT Centre will prepare students for a digitally driven future by providing the technological exposure and confidence required in modern examination systems, while the dining hall and preparatory hall are expected to enhance students’ welfare, comfort and academic concentration.
Mrs Shaibu emphasised the importance of continuity in leadership, explained that although the projects were conceived by the immediate past NAOWA President, her administration ensured their completion and functionality, including furnishing the dining hall to consolidate the original vision.
“True leadership preserves progress, protects legacy and builds on established foundations for lasting impact,” she said.
In her remarks, the Guest of Honour and President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs Mernan Femi Oluyede, who is also the immediate past NAOWA President, expressed satisfaction at the completion of the projects.
She explained that the initiative followed an assessment of the school’s needs, particularly the demand for a modern digital examination facility and improved welfare infrastructure to support academic excellence.
Mrs Oluyede commended the current NAOWA leadership for sustaining the vision, noting that continuity remains essential for building strong and enduring institutions.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General Isah M. Abdullahi, reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s support for initiatives that promote the welfare and educational advancement of personnel families.
He described investments in education as critical to national development and praised NAOWA for complementing the Army’s efforts through impactful community-focused programmes.
The event attracted former presidents of DEPOWA and NAOWA, leaders and members of various military officers’ wives associations, parents and members of the military community, reflecting unity across the armed forces family.
Highlights of the ceremony included an overview of the projects by the consultant, ribbon cutting, a guided tour of the facilities, presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.
The commissioning marks another milestone in NAOWA’s drive toward educational excellence, welfare enhancement and sustainable leadership within the Nigerian Army community.
