The Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Adamu Bello,on 10th April 2025, received Martins Vincent Otse, a.k.a. Verydarkman (VDM), a popular social media influencer renowned for his commitment to supporting vulnerable populations. Otse, accompanied by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, Esq., briefed the DG about his recent encounter with Nigerian girls working in deplorable conditions at a mining site in Côte d’Ivoire.
Otse expressed grave concern over the exploitation and inhumane treatment the girls were subjected to by traffickers and called for an urgent intervention to rescue them. In her response, DG Bello appreciated Otse’s concern and explained the protocols and international procedures involved in rescuing victims, with particular emphasis on respecting the sovereignty of nations.
DG Bello further outlined the ongoing efforts by NAPTIP in combating human trafficking, detailing several successful rescues and interventions. She assured Otse that NAPTIP has already initiated discussions with partners in Côte d’Ivoire to ensure the swift rescue and repatriation of the affected girls.
The meeting concluded with Otse pledging his support to NAPTIP’s efforts, promised to join forces in the fight against human trafficking. He offered to provide technical support and raise awareness on the dangers of human trafficking through a robust partnership with the Agency.
