Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, said his administration has awarded the construction of the Gudi/Maroa rural road at the cost of N1.bn, with work commencing on the site next week.
Engineer Sule disclosed this as special guest of honour, during an empowerment programme for vulnerable women, organized by the Majalisan Maccido Foundation, in Nunku, Akwanga Local Government area, on Saturday.
According to the Governor, in a bid to ease transportation in rural communities, the government is set to award the Nunku/Ajaga/Rinze road project, estimated at another N1bn, with officials already dispatched to carry out feasibility studies.
Engineer Sule further recounted the difficulties the people of the area encounter while traveling, stressing that his experience as a kid growing up in Gudi, was a motivating factor towards bringing succour to the people.
Speaking on the event, the Governor commended the organizers of the empowerment programmes, describing the gesture as selfless service to the community.
Engineer Sule announced a personal donation of N10m, to assist the Majalisan Maccido execute the electrification project earmarked in five communities in the area.
The Governor also personally donated 100 units of gas cylinders, as well as 100 bags of 50kg fertilizer, to women in Nunku.
Engineer Sule used the opportunity to condole with the people of Nunku over the loss of the late Sarkin Nunku, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Adamu, while also congratulating the people on the installation of the new Sarkin Nunku, HRH Adamu I. Muhammad Abubakar II.
The Governor equally warned armed robbers operating along the Nunku/Andaha road to desist from their nefarious activities, stressed that a special unit has been drafted to patrol the road.
While calling on the youths in the area not to venture into criminalities, Engineer Sule assured that his administration was not resting on its oars, in a bid to create employment opportunities for the teeming youths across the state.
The Governor then promised that 2000 youths from the area will be engaged in the NIRSAL/CBN agricultural programme that will commence on the banks of the Tide Dam.
Earlier, Chairman of the occasion, Senator Godiya Akwashishiki (APC, Nasarawa North), promised to carry out electrification project in five communities, as well as sink five solar boreholes and with the projects expected to cost N30m.
Also speaking, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Majalisan Maccido Foundation and former deputy governor, Hon. Damishi Barau Luka, highlighted various interventions undertaken by the foundation, towards alleviating the suffering of the people.
