NASS Is Broke, can’t pay salaries, may sack legislative aides to federal lawmakers

From all indications,National Assembly can no longer pay legislative aides salaries, therefore it is set to sack over 50% of legislators workers.

This is coming after the management of the assembly reneged on payment of August salaries to ove 80% of legislative aides.

The developement recured in August after similar situations was witnessed since the beginning of the year from January to July,as NASS management staggered legislative aides salaries for weeks unlike the federal lawmakers,National Assembly staffers and the commission.

Investigation gathered from the National Assembly confirmed a sharp drop in legislative aides allocations from the federation account, while efforts to confirm from the CNA of this new development to no avail,as no staff was ready to speak with journalists.

The National Assembly legislative aides salary is domiciled with it’s primary Bank,Heritage Bank as efforts to speak with the Bank management after meeting with NASS management and legislative aides body in respect of August salary in Thursday 28th, August met stiff resistance.

Legislative aides have protested severally over lack of attention to it’s welfare from NASS management ranging from irregular salary payment, omission, lack of payment of minimum wage,CONLESS,DTA and the lingering arears of salaries of 2019.

Coming at a time the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission RMAFC is planning to review the salaries and allowances of political appointees, the crises of non payment of monthly salaries seems unabated in NASS.

All efforts to speak to the leadership of National Assembly Legislative Aides, was not successful,as the Assembly is still on recess.

But some legislative aides at the National Assembly who spoke on the conditions of anonimity, threatened protest on resumption of the federal lawmakers from the long vacation over glaring neglect by the NASS management.
