The Arewa Revival Project (ARP) has firmly opposed the 48-hour ultimatum issued by the Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL) to Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the suspension of Senator Natasha Uduaghan. The ARP, in a counter-press statement signed by its Project Coordinator, Hon. Muttaka Ahmed Ibrahim, described the ultimatum as inflammatory, divisive, and a threat to national stability.
The group at a World Press Conference held in Abuja Tuesday 11th March, criticized the approach taken by AYAGL, particularly the call for mass protests and the occupation of the National Assembly by its Speaker, Ambassador Abdul Danbature. ARP emphasized that such actions undermined democratic institutions and due process.
“It is essential to remember that the suspension of any senator, including Senator Natasha Uduaghan, follows due process, and the circumstances must be examined through legal and procedural frameworks rather than through knee-jerk reactions fueled by emotion or partisanship,” ARP stated.
While acknowledging concerns about fairness and justice, the ARP urged all stakeholders to seek redress through constructive dialogue and legal channels rather than disruptive protests. It warned against elements within the political system who incite violence for personal or political gain, calling for strict sanctions against such individuals.
The ARP also urged Northern-based NGOs and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to maintain impartiality and remain law-abiding while advocating for the interests of the people.
“We call for the cessation of any acts that threaten the stability of our country and encourage all Nigerians to work together in the spirit of cooperation and national solidarity,” the statement concluded.
The group further reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful development, unity, and progress in Northern Nigeria, emphasizing that true leadership should prioritize national interest over personal ambition.
