The National Assembly has formally disassociated itself from the Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP), cautioned the public against any claims linking the group to the federal legislature.
The clarification was contained in a statement dated December 17, 2025, and signed by Shehu Umar Tama, Deputy Director, Information and Special Adviser on Media to the Clerk of the National Assembly.
According to the statement, the Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly stated unequivocally that it has no affiliation whatsoever with ALDRAP, which was reportedly planning to establish an association or registry for legislative drafters and organise an award ceremony, including a so-called “Blue Silk Award,” at the National Assembly Complex on Monday, December 15, 2025.
The Clerk’s office emphasised that the proposed event was neither approved nor permitted and was expressly disallowed.
It further clarified that at no time did the Clerk of the National Assembly consent to membership of ALDRAP, accept or show interest in any award, or grant permission for the group to use the National Assembly Complex for any event.
The statement warned that any use of the name of the Clerk or the Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly in connection with ALDRAP or its activities is unauthorised and should be disregarded by the public.
“All concerned are advised to take note accordingly,” the statement concluded.
