The National Assembly on Tuesday took a significant step toward revitalizing the National Association of Public Account Committees (NAPAC) by inaugurating a planning committee. The initiative aims to breathe new life into the association, which has been dormant in recent years.
In his inaugural address, Hon. Bamidele Salami, Chairman of the House Public Account Committee, explained that NAPAC was established in 2014, with 38 chapters across the country, including SPAC, HPAC, and the Public Account Committees of all 36 State Houses of Assembly. The association serves as a platform to promote transparency and accountability in governance.
Salami emphasized that, due to its recent inactivity, the association requires revitalization to strengthen its engagement with State Houses of Assembly Public Account Committees and further its mission.
The newly inaugurated committee members are Sen. Peter Onyeka Nwebonyi, Hon. Tema Amaru, Sen. Abdul Ningi, Sen. Iya Abbas, Hon. Bassey Akiba, and Hon. Tunji Akinosi. They were tasked with spearheading the revitalization of NAPAC and organizing a National Conference of Public Account Committees in the first quarter of 2025.
In response, Sen. Nwebonyi, speaking on behalf of the committee members, assured the National Assembly that the committee would work diligently to meet the expectations set out in their mandate and deliver a successful outcome.
