Plenary sittings in the National Assembly have been further postponed as committees continue work on the 2026 Budget Defence by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The directive, which affected both the Senate and the House of Representatives, was conveyed in an internal memo dated Monday, March 2, 2026, and signed by the Acting Clerk of the House of Representatives, Ibrahim Sidi.
According to the memo, the leadership of both chambers approved the shift in plenary to allow committees conclude the budget defence process, which remains substantially incomplete.
Plenary, earlier scheduled to resume on Thursday, March 5, 2026, will now reconvene on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
The leadership urged lawmakers to utilise the additional time to further refine and strengthen deliberations on the 2026 Appropriation proposals and ensure timely completion of the budget scrutiny process before consideration at plenary.
