The Nigerian Navy and the Nigeria Police Force have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration to enhance national security.
This followed a meeting on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Naval Headquarters in Abuja, where the Chief of the Naval Staff, Idi Abbas, received the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
During the visit, the IGP commended the existing synergy between both institutions, stressed the importance of intelligence-driven policing, joint investigations, and capacity-building through training. He also sought sustained operational support from the Navy, particularly in tackling emerging security threats.
In his remarks, the Naval Chief congratulated the IGP on his appointment and underscored the need for enhanced intelligence sharing and coordinated operations. He disclosed plans to strengthen maritime security through the establishment of a Maritime Crime Investigation Desk in collaboration with INTERPOL, aimed at improving maritime law enforcement.
Vice Admiral Abbas further offered specialized maritime training for personnel of the Marine Police at the Joint Maritime Security Training Centre, noting that such initiatives would bolster professionalism and operational efficiency.
The Naval Chief also called on the Police to support activities lined up for the Navy’s forthcoming 70th anniversary celebrations, particularly in the areas of traffic control and event security.
Both leaders reaffirmed their resolve to pursue a coordinated, intelligence-led approach in addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
